Links for Homeowners
Below are links to web sites you may find helpful when considering a property tax appeal.
Cook County Assessor's Office
http://www.cookcountyassessor.com
The official site of the Cook County Assessor's office. You can find out assessed values
for your own home or homes in your neighborhood, as well as get forms for appealing
your taxes. This is your first opportunity to
appeal your property taxes. Note that this is only for residents of Cook County.
Cook County Board of Review
http://www.cookcountyboardofreview.com
The Cook County Board of Review is the next place to appeal if your initial appeal to the
Cook County Assessor fails.
The Board has the authority to review the assessment and, upon
finding that an assessment is not correct, order the Assessor to increase or
decrease any assessment accordingly.
Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board
http://www.state.il.us/agency/ptab/
If you're unsatisfied with the outcome of your appeals to the Cook County Assessor and
Cook County Board of Review, you can then contest the
valuation of your property to the Property Tax Appeal Board (PTAB).
Cook County Treasurer
http://www.cookcountytreasurer.com
The Cook County Treasurer web site allows you to review and pay your tax bill. You
can also review past tax bills.
Illinois Department of Revenue
http://www.revenue.state.il.us
The Illinois Department of Revenue reviews the assessments for each county as they relate to fair cash value each year.
PropertyTax.com
http://www.propertytax.com
PropertyTax.com is the official Internet site of John P. Fitzgerald, Ltd. While they
specialize in assisting companies and institutions with property tax appeals,
their web site contains a lot of helpful information.
